If you really want to learn about robotics then I suggest they you buy one of the Lego starter sets. It will enable you to build many different kinds of robots and give you valuable experience. When you have mastered all of the various technics with the kit then you should be able to apply them to building larger bots.
At least you will have a much better idea on what to do and how to do it. Bill |

You need to tell us more about what you want to do. There are three basic kinds of systems we tend to call robots. 1. Systems for which we program every detail of what they do, causing them to perform a specific function. We see many such robots in manufacturing, for instance. 2. Radio controlled devices that perform functions directed by a person. No doubt you have seen examples in robot wars and battle bots programs. You will also see similar machines used by NASA to control functions in space and by doctors working on patients by remotely controlling even delicate surgeries. 3. Autonomous devices that left alone adapt to their environment and work for their own good or the good of their owners. Such devices are typically found in research projects. They may also be found (according to the manufacturers' hype) in some recent toys such as Pleo. If you more clearly describe your interest we can more successfully help and guide you.
