Robotics is the next great field like the PC was in the last generation. What made the PC great was thousands of hackers working on an open system to improve, expand, invent and develop an industry that was bigger at IBM than their mainframes and outside of IBM created the richest man in the world. I hear Aibo is dead. There were PCs far more advanced than the IBM. When Big Blue was offering a floppy disk single user system Ohio Scientific had 80MB hard drives, 16 user boxes, and networking up to 256 users. What killed them? Closed systems, closed software, and closed minds. The more open, expandable, and hackable a system is, the greater it will be, intellectual property or not. Pleo could be a first step in that direction, but I hope the SD card can carry much more than personality.
