I purchased my Robopet from Sears in Toronto 2 nights ago. I noticed he can only see the remote signals in front of him, but could not see the remote signals from behind him. I did not like that so I modded him so he can now see the remote signals behind him. I did it by disassembling his head and added a second Ir Detector that I took from a dead DVD Player. I cut the existing black, orange and yellow wires going to his origional Ir Detector and soldered them in parallel connection to the new second Ir Detector the soldered the out going black, orange and yellow wires in parallel to the second Ir Detector. I then glued the 2nd Ir Detector inside this head assembly facing up so that it can see through the Ir see through cover on the upper shell of his head. Reassembled my Robopet and tested him. Now I can control him through his remote from the front sides and rear. Makes him much more useful.
I did a second mod to my Robopet. I added a red Ultrabright LED from a dead Optical Mouse on the back of my Robopet just behind the neck where the ring that has a hole in it. I drilled out the ring to slightly smaller then the diameter of the LED. Pushed the LED into the hole from inside the shell out. So that the top of the LED just sticks out of the ring. I the cut the orange and black wires going into the head. On the mainboard where the connector for the head wiring is it shows that the black wire going into the head is ground and the orange wire going into the head is VCC. After soldering the wires on then reassembling the Robopet, I turned him on. Yes the LED is on whenever I turn on the Robopet. That is all I wanted was a power on status LED. But I got an added bonus with this mod. Whenever I put Robopet in sleep Mode the LED flashes on/off. So now I can tell when Robopet is on, off or in sleep mode. I figure the VCC is for the Ir Detectors and in sleep mode the VCC for the Ir Detectors is pulsed to keep checking for the remotes wake up Ir signal. And I just tapped into that VCC line that now give me a visual signal for sleep mode. Tell me what you think of this mod?
No, the LED does not affect the operation of the Ir Detectors. I have been using him with these mods for a few days now and saw no difference in his Ir communications except wider detection range because of the mod I did of adding a second Ir Detector in his head.
u could make some money by puting an add in the paper saying your could mod rs v1,2, roboraptor, and robopet. many ppl dont like the default behavior so thats a pretty easy way to make money
the odds of someone living close to him, thats needs their robosapien modded, and willing the pay a person the don't know to alter their toy, is very low. He should sell a step by step guide, with parts included optional, on the internet. Maybe even ebay.
1. just a suggestion as a Part-time job 2. there is already a book like that, and people proably would want a book they have heard about over a book for a little extra money on the side
