another option is opening up the controler and trying to find lose wires.
as far as i know the rsv1 heads are complex so check the controler first, again just look for broken wires

Find another RS1. Use their controller, and see if you have the same problem. If so, the sensors that read the controller may be dirty or intermittent. If not, get a new controller. Since the controller works on IR light, it may not function well if the general lighting situation is too bright around your robot. See if you have the same problem in darker places. If your batteries are not fresh, try a new set. My RS1 experience is that the robot is sensitive to the position from which commands are issued. See if direct line of sight to the sensor results in constant communication.

I recently read a small article, forgot where but the person wired in another ir receiver on the back of Robos head. He just tied the wires to the one that were already there. His response was it really worked great and gave him more control over the bot as it could receive signal both comming and going. Bill
